  • We leave the hotel at dawn. The plan is to visit some of the most isolated communities in the flood affected area.  Our driver – the quietly-spoken Amjad – is worried we haven’t had breakfast and pulls into a questionable looking truck stop. A couple of truck drivers snooze on one of the low platforms scattered with cushions that furnish the open eating area.

  • We follow the non-descript bus for two hours along the flood damaged dirt roads of Sindh. The only thing marking its difference from a regular passenger bus, is the small National Red Crescent Society emblem on the side. But inside it’s very different – the bus carries an entire mobile health clinic and a team of volunteer doctors and other health professionals.

  • Less than 20km north of where Lila and Ibrahim sit, a Pakistan Red Crescent team has set up a mobile water treatment plant. The small trailer carrying purification equipment can produce up to 30,000 litres of water a day, enough drinking water for about 4,000 people.

  • IFRC delegate Joe Cropp visited flood devastated Pakistan and found despair and determination in the ruins. Day 1 - Driving deeper into Sindh province, the roads become narrow strips of land flanked by flood water. Crops that were almost ready for harvest now slowly rot in the stagnant water.
