  • Moon Dae Sun was not a very popular gold medallist. At least not in the sports arena immediately after he had knocked out his opponent after two minutes in the taekwondo final. However, Moon Dae Sun went back to the knocked out finalist, helped him stand up and arm-in-arm, they went around the arena to greet and thank the audience.

Doing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation with your teammates watching in cheering can quite an ordeal, but once they got “in to it”, everybody wanted to try. And then they wanted to do the anti-choking exercise, but they all skipped out when it came to bandaging.

Even though both Hamish and Robert are champions of their own causes, the ones that truly inspired me were the young athletes who had big dreams of how they will change the world.

Some 5,000 athletes and officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are attending the games, along with estimated 1,200 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and more than 370,000 spectators, and the Red Cross Red Crescent is supporting the cultural and education programme of the games.
